What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light, often abbreviated as IPL or commonly referred to as “Photo Facial”, involves the emission of strong pulses of non-coherent light to selectively address different pigments within the skin. As a result, it is highly effective in treating a wide array of conditions, including:
- Diminishing age spots and redness
- Improving skin pigmentation
- Relieving dry eye symptoms
Photorejuvenation
Photorejuvenation refers to the use of IPL to treat conditions related to sun-induced skin damage and vascularity issues. IPL uses a broad spectrum of light and effectively reduces the appearance of sun spots, capillaries, and elastosis, and builds collagen.
IPL was invented by Lumenis and is considered the gold standard for Photorejuvenation treatments.
Dry Eye Treatment
Dry eye is a condition that occurs when tears cannot properly lubricate the eyes. This is caused by either a decrease in tear creation or an increase in tear evaporation. If not treated, dry eye can cause lasting damage to the corneal surface and declining vision.
Meibomian glands are the tiny oil glands, which line the margin of the upper and lower eyelids. These glands secrete oil which coats the surface of the eyes and keeps the water component of tears from evaporating.
IPL Therapy is a painless method that delivers pulses of light to liquefy and release the oils that have hardened and clogged the meibomian glands in the eyelids. IPL also reduces eyelid redness and stimulates healthy gland function.
